THE GREATER BALTIMORE CHURCH OF CHRIST

MATURE SINGLES CONFERENCE

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

JUNE 14 –JUNE 15, 2007

Hello Everyone,

As you know, the Mature Singles Conference is fast approaching. Some of you have volunteered to participate in some of the Community Service Projects that are scheduled during the first few days of the conference.

I am providing the information for the three community service projects so that you can read about the organizations and understand what we are doing and who we are serving.

Once you have read over the information about the community service projects, please email us back and let us know which community service would best fit what you would like to volunteer for so that we can make sure that every project is filled and served with

the spiritual fervor that God would call us to as disciple.

On the day of the community service , we will meet in the lobby of the Hampton Inn and Suites 45 minutes before the scheduled time so that we can ride together to the community service project.

If you feel like you are not able to volunteer for any reason, please email us back at singles@maturesinglesconference.com.

Thanks for your participation and we are looking forward to seeing you at the conference.

Community Service Projects

June 14 and 15th 2007

THE JENKINS SENIOR LIVING COMMUNITY

The Jenkins Senior Living Community has many parts of its organization. We will be volunteering between the three of these programs in their community.

St Ann’s Adult Day Program

St. Ann Adult Day Services is a medical day program that is vital for the continuum of care on the Jenkins campus. Participants are typically older adults, who for health and safety reasons cannot remain at home alone. By providing structured, high quality services during the day, family members can continue much needed employment, secure in knowing their frail elder is well cared for.

Caritas House Assisted Living

Caritas House Assisted living provides support for seniors who can no longer live on their own but who do not need the full-time medical care provided at a skilled nursing facility. It is a gracious community offering social interaction, activities, medical care, spiritual support, peace of mind for caregivers, and help with life's every day needs. Residents receive personal assistance with activities of daily living including bathing, meals, toileting and dressing. Caritas House Assisted living also offers medication management, housekeeping, laundry and recreational and cultural activities.

St. Elizabeth Rehabilitation and Nursing Center

St. Elizabeth Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is a 162-bed nursing facility that provides high-quality long and short-term nursing and rehabilitative care to its residents with a goal to enable each individual to achieve his or her highest potential. Care for each resident is guided by a customized plan. Diverse services, including extensive recreational therapy, are integrated to meet each individual's unique needs and abilities. Family members can take part in a variety of programs and services specifically designed to meet their needs. The rigorous Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) accredits St. Elizabeth.

We will be volunteering to do a variety of duties. We will be reading to the seniors, singing talking to and helping them with various tasks. We will also plant flowers and if anyone is talented in the area of carpentry, the facility will be very grateful to be able to use your skills.

Time Thursday, June 14, 2007     12:00AM- 2:00PM Transportation will be provided for this project.

THE LEVINDALE GERIATRIC CENTER

Levindale is a geriatric center and hospital dedicated to providing superior service in a cost-effective manner for the aged, frail and ill in institutional, community and home settings. As an advocate for the elderly, Levindale accepts a leadership role in defining and developing in collaboration with other agencies, a comprehensive continuum of nursing, medical and social services within the   Baltimore Metropolitan area.  . As part of our Eden Alternative program, we are committed to creating an enviorment that promotes a celebration of Life.

Some of the duties that we will be volunteering to perform will be helping the elderly by reading to them, transporting them to parts of the building and assisting in and helping with a birthday party.

Time Thursday, June 14, 2007     12:00PM- 4:00PM Transportation will be provided for this project.

THE ARK

The Ark is a short-term emergency preschool program for children ages 3 to 5 whose families are homeless or in the early stages of recovery from addiction.

The purpose is to support language and social skills development to better prepare children for school.

Some of the duties will include focusing on enriching children’s language by talking, playing and reading with them.

Encourage children to talk about what they are doing.  Describe for the children what is going on.  Ask children questions.  Help them answer by giving them words to express themselves.  Name objects they are using describing shapes and colors.  Use rhyming words.

 .

Some of the benefits would include having an opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child, helping a child learn and grow as an individual.

Time  : June 15, 2007 at  8:30 AM-10:30AM.  Transportation will be provided to and from the project.
